The New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991 is a UK legislation regulating the installation, maintenance, and repair of utilities running beneath public roads. It aims to minimize public disruption, ensure safety, protect the structural integrity of roads, and facilitate collaboration amongst utility companies and local authorities. A complete assessment regiment for Street Works Operatives and Supervisors to ensure those with expiring or expired Street Works cards (within the grace period) are maintaining their knowledge of the relevant laws, safety regulations, and codes of practice. Any and all Street Works modules can be reassessed on this reassessment course.
We do advise those coming up to the end of their qualification dates, usually 6 months of the qualification's expiry, to book in a reassessment. We recommend reassessing early, as any remaining time will be added to the renewed qualifications, and also avoids running the risk of the qualifications lapsing. Should this happen, you would be ineligible to conduct works in the street and road, and could also void any insurance coverage on these jobs.
Welcome to the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) Reassessment Course for Operatives & Supervisors! This 2-day program is designed to allow candidates to opportunity to display their understanding of the UK's NRSWA 1991 legislation through intensive examination, with the aim to renew their existing Street Works qualifications.
Within this course, you will have the opportunity to renew the qualifications held on your existing Street Works card, so long as they are within a year of expiry, or up to five years after their expiry. Throughout the course, your knowledge on the NRSWA will be examined in accordance to the relevant units of competence to your existing card. This course is essential for maintaining valid certification under NRSWA for performing street works and road works legally and safely. The reassessment ensures compliance with current standards and regulations, updating participants on any changes since their initial certification.
The NRSWA Reassessment Course is designed to allow you to undergo assessment under strict exam conditions in order to show your knowledge of the applicable aspects of street works operations. Candidates can reassess for any units currently on their Street Works card.
Please note that on these sessions no formal training is provided. For refresher training for individual units, please make an enquiry.
The tests have a strict time limit of 45mins, and each unit being reassessed will require a 20 question multiple choice test, for which a minimum of 16 of these questions will need to be answered correctly (min. 80% correct for pass on each test).
This course is aimed at operatives and supervisors who hold a NRSWA card that is due to expire or who require re-certification to continue working on public highways legally. We would advise those who are entering the 6 month period for their card's expiry to book a reassessment asap, to avoid waiting for their units to be renewed.
Candidates will, by the end of reassessment, have been re-examined on each unit wishing to be renewed on their current Operative or Supervisor Street Works card. Following successful reassessment, candidates will be able to apply safe working practices in the conducting of Street Works operations and be able to carry these out under their renewed qualification.
At the end of the course you will receive a NRSWA certificate from the CABWI awarding body, and a new Street Works card with your updated unit expiry dates. The old card can be used up until the expiry on the card, and once the new one is received this old card should be destroyed.
This certificate has been designed to allow the candidate to renew their Street Works qualification(s), for those who hold current or recently expired qualifications. This course is best booked within the 6-month lead-up to the expiry of your SWQR card, in order to make sure that the card is able to be renewed prior to the expiry date. The new card validity will be equal to 5 years, plus whatever time was remaining on the card prior to expiry. Candidates will be assessed in line with the current legislation to ensure they can carry out street works to a high standard.
The unit teaching will typically take place over the course of one day for units up to O3, and two days for units up to O8.
